Breckenridge Independent School District: The BISD serves a total of 840 square miles in Stephens County and is comprised of three elementary schools (K-6), one junior high, (7-8), and one senior high school (9-12). Kindergarten is offered to all five year olds. In addition, the BISD includes a gifted and talented program. Special education is available to the preschool student through the Early Childhood Education Program. Enrollment is approximately 1,900 students. North and East Elementary schools have been granted an Exemplary Rating.

Texas State Technilogical College: In the spring of 1989, the City of Breckenridge turned to Texas State Technical Institute (TSTI) to open an extension center that would provide technology training for local and area residents. Within a few months, the Legislature and the Governor of Texas approved the creation of the Rural Technology Center at Breckenridge which opened in the fall of 1990. Now known as Texas State Technical College (TSTC), the Breckenridge location is part of the state-wide system of technical colleges and is an extension center of TSTC West Texas Sweetwater. With a state-wide role and mission, TSTC is efficiently and quickly reshaping the face of Texas to meet the high-tech challenges of today’s global economy.
AT TSTC West Texas Breckenridge, students can select from the following certificate and/or Associate degree options: Building Construction Technology, Chemical Dependency Counseling, Computer Information Technology, Environmental Science Technology, Health Information Technology, or Vocational Nursing. In addition to the certificate and degree programs, the center provides dual enrollment courses to Breckenridge High School students, workforce education courses, as well as program support courses in general academics and foundational studies.
TSTC West Texas Breckenridge is comprised of 3 facilities-- the original location at 307 N. Breckenridge Avenue; the Rick Perry Higher Education Center located at 211 N. Court Street; and the Industrial Annex Building located at 942 C.R. 176. Students attending TSTC West Texas Breckenridge have access to a full range of support services such as the college library, computerized placement testing, financial aid, career planning/placement, bookstore, and student lounge. Student organizations include a local chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society, Student Government Association (SGA), and several other student clubs unique to the various programs of study in Breckenridge.
The Breckenridge center offers a wide range of opportunities for area residents by integrating hands-on classroom education, on-line classes, and distance learning technologies in a friendly, student-oriented environment.
